5 out of 5 stars Gamo hunter extreme 1.77   January 28, 2010

What can i say. It was a bargain at just $231 and it's the most powerful air rifle i have ever used. The noise the pellets make at supersonic speed puts a grin on your face and the penatration at 30-50yards is unreal. I aint had a good chance to use it yet but so far so good. I would def recommend this gun even at double the cost i paid.

I received the rifle (177) yesterday, was shipped in great condition a great price @ $231.00. The gun was manufactured in 08 (A bit of a surprise, been nice if that would have been mentioned in the advertisement) so may not have latest improvements. The instructions for the rifle, and the scope are the worst I have ever seen! I am 67 and this is a considered statement. The gun is beautiful, and the scope seems very good also. I will be sighting in when it gets a bit warmer. I have also ordered a Varmint hunter 177 @ $143.00, and a Whisper 22 @ $169.00. Both at a great price, were on sale I think. I ordered lots of ammo if different types and several targets including a couple of spinners for 22's and a pellet box by Gamo. They were all priced really well. All of the items will be here in a few days. I will report on the quality of all, and how all sight in. I am really excited about this sport for me and my wife. I will appreciate any other folks that will relay thier experience on any of these items so we can compare notes. Happy New Year to all. (Amazon has been a great place to shop!)

5 out of 5 stars Powerful, Accurate, Consistant   April 12, 2010

Wow! This review is a bit long, the quick and dirty version; BUY THIS AIRGUN! The Gamo Hunter Extreme .22 air rifle is absolutely phenomenal. I was a bit apprehensive about the Gamo name because I was not at all impressed with a cheaper one of their air rifles; It was a piece of junk with a bent barrel. With the Hunter Extreme, the good reviews seemed to outweigh the bad by a good margin, so I figured to give it a try. Shipping was fast enough, the package arrived in mint condition, and the scope was even mounted. The stock is a real beaut, nicely finished, heavy and solid. Large handed shooters will be right at home with this rifle. Engraved on the receiver is "1250 fps PBA" and "950 fps lead", the box says 1300 fps as does the description on Amazon and elsewhere. No big deal. The 62 lb. cocking effort is not nearly as bad as some people make it sound, even sitting or prone, and the action is butter smooth. The rifle was nearly zeroed out of the box, just a few clicks and it was shooting .75" PBA groups at 25yds, with me kneeling behind a sawhorse "steady rest". The PBA ammo give a nice .22 rimfire like crack. I tried some H&N Sport Barracuda Match 21.14 gr. pellets from Pyramid Air at 50yds and WOW!!! Sub 1.5" 5 shot groups into a decent head wind laying prone. Fact is, these heavy lead pellets drop less than 1.5" from 20 to 50yds in this rifle. The accurate, flat trajectory and wicked, hard hitting of these 21.14 gr. pellets is absolutely awesome in this rifle.

The long and short of the matter is that this air rifle is fantastic, accurate and powerful as all get out. Just remember that every air gun is different, each will have 1 or 2 types of pellets that shoot much better than all others. And shame on those who try the cheapest pellets from Walmart and condemn the gun as inaccurate. In my opinion, $200 and up pellet guns should always start with hi quality pellets from Beeman/H&N, as they are as near dead consistent as you'll find.

Okay, i lined up and got ready, this is the first shot from this gun the victim is about 65 yards away. i start fallowing the target marked by the intercepting black lines, i pull the trigger the beeman silver arrow hits and the !!!SMALL DEAR!!! FALLS!!! one shot! onee shotttt! AAAAH. okay this is just like a .22 rifle i mean come on it shuts faster, the guns a beast nothing like a shot from this break barrel rifle. its a killer, a must buy a lil pricey but its lasted me forever. also get the gamo viper express.

Okay so i bought this air rifle for [...] bucks and i thought it was a good price i mean i see it on tv and all over the place but when i got it, i was surprised it is the funnest airgun i have ever shot in my life. the gun is amazing it has 9x50 illuminated scope and its cool but not needed to me a normal duplex scope would of been fine. But here is my problem i dont know if anyone of you have purchased and airrifle and the dang thing wont sight in properly, but thats what is happening to me and i love it but this is getting on my nerves cause the thing will jump of the paper at a level surface and held tight down to limit the recoil so if any one has any pointers before i go buy a new scope that will be great but on the other hand its a great gun, and i would buy it.
